太空上的宏观量子叠加态


我刚刚发现欧洲47个科学家组成的团队,提出要在太空研究宏观量子叠加态相关的实验。整个项目预算3亿欧元,预计在2025年完成。作为其技术路线图的重要参考,我的某篇论文被引用了好些次。我2011年提出,用单个光学腔的多个高阶模式来与纳米粒子相互作用,可以同时冷却其三维运动到量子基态。这篇申请书描述其技术路线时,两次引用了我的文章。他们打算在太空中应用我的理论构想来实现对纳米粒子的三维冷却,进而制备其宏观量子叠加态。

To also cool the motion of the particle along the two dimensions perpendicular to the cavity mode, we will use higher-order TEM01 and TEM10 modes [61].

As soon as the particle is at the correct position, we can use three-dimensional intra-cavity cooling to cool the center-of-mass motion of the particle close to the quantum ground state along the cavity axis and to low occupation numbers in the transverse directions [61].

可惜,欧洲没钱做,他们的申请被否决了。不论如何,我很骄傲自己的理论工作能够成为这个大项目申请的参考之一。说实话,我一直很惶恐,自己做了这么多年的研究,从未以第一作者在顶级物理学刊物上发表过论文。现在看到这个工作能够为宏观量子力学研究的发展做出了实实在在的贡献,体现了论文的价值,也就欣然了。

欧洲科学家的申请被否掉了,那么中国未来可能做这个实验么?但愿我能有机会参与。

  1. good for you, and thanks again for your introduction of Tegmark’s paper, I read the “integration paradox” again, only part of it. his paper is very rich, and this “integration paradox” is super important for information processing theory, but few people pay attention to it, likely due to the limits of lab experiment in handling any human involved system.

  2. actually, 楊振寧’s most recently published paper (nov, 2014, 2014年11月的《今日物理(Physics Today) quoted Einstein saying that natural law can never be fully described by any linear model, and quantum physics today is still a linear model, with inherited “integration paradox” problem, but Tegmark’s paper quantified this “integration paradox” in a very intuitive way, very helpful;

    by the way, “integration paradox” is one of reasons, that politicians globally can play financially profitable game of social politics, like wall street playing financial games, and they all say, that without them, this world will fall apart. kind of true, until one day we have a truly quantum computer based information system, then “religion of politics” will consumer much less social resources than today. even then, the quantum computer will still have this “integration paradox” issue, so the best game in the town is sill that game of what Mao’s called 與人鬥其樂無窮, period. in terms of player’s personal gain, not their contribution to social development.
